ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
Cove Brook and its watershed, a part of the Lower Penobscot watershed, is located in Winterport and Hampden. Cove Brook is the last of the eight rivers in Maine to be designated by the federal government as containing endangered Atlantic salmon. In response, local citizens formed a watershed council in the winter of 2001. In the six years since its formation, the Council has been involved in actively monitoring, restoration, and education projects on the brook and in the watershed.
