Recreation Coordinator Report - February/March 2008
We had A good turnout for our annual sled night party. Thanks to Boys Scouts Troop 234 for the warmth of their fire, Mandy Olver, Mike Knupp and Mary Lester hotdogs/chips and warm cocoa was on hand all night. The numbers of families and kids present was equal to last year so it was a hit again.
Basketball finished up its season within the recreation league. All our teams exhibited great sportsmanship through out the tournaments. The 3rd/4th Grade girls team finished the season as the league champions with a record of 9-0-0 with great team play. They became runner ups in the tournament to Newburgh. Great job Girls!!!
Our Cross Country Sky Program had enough participants to enable the kids a good chance at instruction and fun weekly. We look forward in expanding the numbers of participants next year. During the month of March everything pretty much came to a halt with our basketball program, which started the thinking progress of getting our baseball program up and running.
Last but not least is the resignation of two individuals from our Recreation Board. These two people (Norm Poirier, Helga Meo) have put in hundreds and hundreds of hours volunteering on the Town of Winterport's Recreation Board and its Basketball and Baseball programs over many years. Their dedication and time will be hard to replace. The towns children, parents, the Recreation Board and myself thank them for everything they have done and participated in through the years. Thank you Norm and Helga.
